Nowadays, there are a few kinds of wedding coordinators with the main being full service (which means start to finish) and then day of. Recently, we were discussing with a local vendor an experience she had when trying to communicate with a non-local day of coordinator. She was flabbergasted at how little the day of coordinator knew about the timeline of events for the wedding day and she asked us why a bride would choose a day of coordinator over a full service coordinator. It comes down to two things: Cost and or wanting to enjoy your wedding day without having to deal with details and planning. Lake Front Wedding & Events has created a variety of packages within each budget so that brides get what they really want-a full service coordinator within their price point. We still thought it was an interesting topic to cover. After all, if a vendor has this question, we are sure there are brides to be that are pondering the same thing.
What does a full service wedding coordinator do?
A full service wedding coordinator helps the bride and groom plan their wedding from start to finish. Their whole goal is to bring the day of your dreams to life. A full service coordinator helps couples plan their budget and then pick a venue and vendors based on that information all the while keeping in mind the vision the couple has for their big day. Keep in mind that the word “vendors” include everything from the minister to the musicians to the cake baker to the photographer to the hair stylist and everything in between. Their job does not end there though. In the months leading up to the wedding, they act as a liaison for the couple by organizing all the details required from and for everyone involved. Additionally, they help create the style of the wedding, obtain the décor items and then decorate accordingly. The day of the Lake Tahoe wedding, the full service coordinator is on site early to not only set up, but communicate details, make sure everyone is accounted for and in their spots at the right time as well as stay for tear down. They also act as the wedding 911. Did a bridesmaid’s dress rip? Or did a groomsmen spill on his white shirt before the photos? These are all wedding stressors that a coordinator is well versed in and can act on quickly, minimizing damage control. Truly, a full service wedding coordinator is there for the bride and groom every step of the way. Which, when you think about it, is priceless when this is one day and one memory that you can’t get back.
A day of coordinator is someone you get for one day only. Typically, the communication will start about a week or two ahead of time and they will obtain the vendors contacts to confirm details for the big day. The day of, they will be on site to basically act as the couple’s assistant. Their main goal is to oversee set up and communication with the vendors, make sure everyone is accounted for and in their places according to the timeline so that photos can be taken and the events can start on time. Once the ceremony, cocktail hour and reception are finished, they will oversee the tear down of the event.
Now, if you are a bride that wants to plan every step of your Lake Tahoe wedding, then a day of coordinator could be a good pick. However, keep in mind that day of services can cost almost as much as a full service coordinator. If this is you, consider picking a full service coordinator and letting them know you want to do a majority of the planning. They can still be of great help as they are a fountain of all things wedding knowledge. They can suggest venues and vendors as well as helpful hints along the way and then be on site for the big day so you can enjoy it with no stress.
