You’re engaged (congratulations!) and now it’s time to start planning a wedding. Many couples that we hear from don’t have a set date in mind but they do have their favorite Lake Tahoe wedding venue picked out. Since we are a destination wedding planner, and certain times of the year fill up quickly, it is very important to settle on your wedding date early in the process of planning your fabulous wedding in Lake Tahoe!
Winter, Spring, Summer or Fall?
At Lake Front Wedding we plan weddings all year long, seven days a week.
Winter weddings – Believe it or not, we have a lot of couples that want an outdoor wedding in the winter! While the selection of wedding venues is smaller there are still some great, romantic choices. You can get married at Emerald Bay or at the Ski Resort as well as a few beaches. Indoor weddings are available at many locations as well, including our waterfront country club and intimate chapel. Weekends can be busy in Lake Tahoe will all of the skiers and you never know about the weather, but that shouldn’t stop you! Busier weekends include Christmas/New Year’s, Martin Luther King Weekend and President’s Weekend.
Spring weddings – Ah, spring…love is in the air as is the promise of new and fresh beginnings. What a perfect time to get married in Lake Tahoe! While not all of our outdoor venues are available in spring, many do offer wedding opportunities! We never know when the snow will melt but we do know when the average temperatures start to rise. Early spring weddings need a bit more flexibility due to weather and venue closures, but we can still plan you the perfect wedding. Room rates are generally lower in spring and the town is slower, making it easier for your out-of-town guests to plan an affordable weekend in Lake Tahoe for your wedding. Weekends to be aware of when planning you big day is the weekend of Mother’s Day and Memorial Day since your guests may have other plans and the holiday brings out more visitors.
Summer weddings – These fill up quickly, especially those to be held on a Saturday. A trend we’re seeing are more Friday weddings so the wedding couple and their guests can plan for a whole weekend of activities at the lake after the “I Do’s” are said. This is great news as many summertime wedding venues in Lake Tahoe are still available on Fridays as well as on mid-weeks days. Summer weddings in Tahoe are beautiful, with the blue skies, the warmer temperatures and a plethora of activities and vendors to chose from. Father’s Day may not be your best choice for a wedding day. Stay away from the 4th of July for your wedding, simply because of the crowds that come to Lake Tahoe. Lodging may be an issue for you and your guests, as well as many beach venues being unavailable for weddings. The same issues arise on Labor Day weekend because of the Fireworks in Lake Tahoe and the people that hit the town for an end of summer celebration.
Fall weddings – Fall is one of our favorite times of the year to plan weddings! More venues become available after the summer rush and the weather is normally perfect. Lake Tahoe is known for our Indian Summers and outdoor weddings can actually have nicer weather than our summer ones. Fall brings with it great colors to have in your wedding and our scenery with it’s color change is a great backdrop to your ceremony and reception. Your guests will be happy too, not only to spend the time with you at your wedding, but to be able to plan a more affordable getaway and to have fewer crowds to deal with. There aren’t any holidays to be aware of when picking your date in fall, but there are events. The annual Salmon Festival and Oktoberfest would create problems if you wanted our historic estate wedding venue (held on same weekend). Lake Tahoe gets overflow visitors from Reno’s big events of the Balloon Races and Street Vibrations, but not enough to really create an issue.
A quick look at our local tourism website will show you significant events in Lake Tahoe that you might want to be aware of. Perhaps your group all enjoys golfing, then you might not want to have your wedding during our annual celebrity golf tournament, or many you would because they could attend.
